The Nebraska basketball team continued to fill out its 2019 class with the addition of a new in-state commitment. Tim Miles is locking down the state.

On Wednesday night, the Nebraska basketball team got some very good news. Akol Arop, who is considered the number two player in the state for the 2019 class decided to commit to the Huskers.

Arop made the announcement through his official Twitter account saying: “First of all I would like to thank God, my family and coaches for their support. Also want to thank all of coaches for taking their to time to recruit me. I am proud to announce that I will be continuing my faith, academic and basketball career at Nebraska Lincoln!”

The small forward out of Creighton Prep chose the Cornhuskers over Drake and Tulsa especially. He had visits to all three schools and his trip to Lincoln was the most recent. While Arop certainly isn’t the hottest target in the 2019 class, it is clear that he is the kind of talent that the Cornhuskers need to lock down if only because they need to lock down the state.

If there has been a singular complaint about Tim Miles, it’s that he hasn’t always had a great deal of success when it comes to getting the in-state stars. With the addition of Akol Arop, it means Miles has managed to get the top Nebraska players in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes.

Considering we’re talking about a team that is already expected to have a heck of 2018-19 season, it certainly appears that Miles is making good on his promise to turn the program around.

It isn’t there yet. The program hasn’t been completely turned around yet. The Nebraska basketball team has appeared to be on firm footing before, only to see the ground go out from under them. It will be a while before we know if they really are on solid footing this time. They’re making some good steps forward at least.
