The Purdue Boilermaker train arrives in Lincoln to take on the Nebraska football team on Saturday at 2:30.  The Cornhuskers hope to derail the Gold and Black.

If you watch from home, tune in to BTN. The team from Indiana will roll into a Memorial Stadium that hasn’t seen a victory for the Nebraska football team in far too long. It feels like forever since we were able to cheer, smile and linger to talk about a win. Do the Huskers know how to win anymore? Has the WIN train already left the station this season?

Coach Brohm has his team looking more like Pur-do than Purdon’t as of late. QB David Blough continues to earn praise. They had an exciting win over Boston College 30-13 last weekend, a ranked opponent at the time.

Don’t count on Saturday to be easy for the Big Red engine that could. Every game is going to be an uphill battle…like an end of the Star Wars EPIC battle scene (any one of the first VI at least). Purdue has a much-improved offense and our Blackshirts will need to focus to keep from being derailed.

Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez showed grit but he didn’t look good against Michigan. He was running for his life like a wild turkey at Thanksgiving. We learned that other than Bunch, we have no other options at QB. Staying healthy is critical for the QBs. Without a dual threat QB behind center, every defense is going to come right at the Cornhusker O line which seems to have lost a lot of steam since that Colorado game.

Nonetheless, despite what may or may not happen on the gridiron, rest assured that the Nebraska faithful will be tailgating in Lincoln. The weather may also be a little unpredictable. Right now it’s calling for a 40% chance of rain showers with a high of 60. Never hurts to have a good game plan. Bring your poncho and layer up. Speaking of the chill in the air, I added some Frost to the tailgate this week.

Gatorade makes a whole bunch of flavors called Frost. I picked the frosty white one, glacier cherry flavor and mixed it with Svedka plain jello. Heat 2 cups of Gatorade until boiling and mix with the Jello. Stir until mixed. Add in 1 3/4 cup of vodka, pour into cups and chill.

How does one translate a train and a big drum thing into a tailgate theme? I have no clue. It’s an afternoon game and I haven’t been able to stomach much since that beat down up in the big house so I’m prescribing snacks. My friends from Wisconsin are bringing cheese from the land of dairy. I’m tossing in some summer sausage from the Wahoo meat locker. We need more Wahoo in our Saturdays. This is the first gameday the cheese won’t sweat more than Coach Frost in his after game press conference.

For those craving more of the sweet taste of a Cornhusker victory, you can purchase Red and White candies and mix with peanuts. Whatever your mood, there is usually a snack to go with it. I know I’m ready to get that losing taste out of my mouth.

I’m looking forward to better play on the field. I’m looking forward to not melting at the tailgate. I’m looking forward to my friends enjoying each others’ company. We tailgate harder than most teams play but that way we always win.

Next. Whether Nebraska football has hit bottom is still an open question. dark

Get out to support the Nebraska football team. Make sure to thank your tailgate hosts and most of all, GO BIG RED!
