While the spotlight on recruiting has dimmed as the Nebraska football team struggles through a bad season, there are still bright spots.

The Nebraska football team made the cut for one of its top offensive line targets in the 2019 class. Dohnovan West made the announcement early Monday morning, cutting the number of schools he’s still considering down to five.

Perhaps one of the most interesting things about the list is how heavily West Coast it is. In addition to the Cornhuskers, West named Arizona State, Boise State, Utah and Washington State.

The Huskers and Boise State aren’t in the Pac 12 and the Broncos might as well be. That little factoid can have one of two different impacts.

It’s possible West is going to want to go east. If that’s the case then the Huskers clearly have the inside track.

On the other hand, almost no schools outside of the Pac 12 region paid much attention to the 3-star prospect. Either schools didn’t believe he was leaving his home region or he made it clear he wasn’t all that interested in it.

That doesn’t mean Scott Frost and company didn’t still make some serious inroads. Iowa State and Boston College both offered. Both schools were left off his latest cut list.

It’s clear the Huskers are going to have their hands full pulling the lineman out of California. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

West visited Lincoln on September 1 for what was supposed to be the season opener. Since then he hasn’t taken any other visits but does have two lined up for next month.

Dohnovan West has said he plans on visiting Boise State on October 5 and will check out Utah on October 20. If he does take at least those two visits before he makes an announcement, Nebraska football fans are going to have a way to wait before they find out if he’s ‘N.’
