Nebraska football: 3 things we learned at Monday’s press conference
We’re starting with what I think might be the biggest nugget to come out of a Nebraska football player’s mouth today. During his portion of the press conference, offensive lineman Tanner Farmer talked about how there still isn’t 100 percent buy-in with the team.
It’s hard to know exactly what this means but it’s not great. The most perturbing thing about that comment is that Husker fans have been waiting a long time to see a time really have that buy-in.
After spending most of the offseason having the players talk like everyone was on the same page, it was interesting to hear that’s not entirely the case.
It’s also quite frustrating to hear that sort of thing, even if Farmer is being quite candid because a lack of “buy-in” has been a supposed problem with this team for at least three years now.
To be fair to the players and Farmer, the offensive lineman made it sound as if some of that lack of buy-in was unintentional:
Players not “understanding” what is needed of them paints a different picture to me than players who were going out of their way to do something different than what they were told. The obstinate approach we heard about under Riley is hopefully really gone.
On the other hand, Frost mentioned players “going off on their own.” So it appears there’s a little from column A and a little from column B from certain players on the Nebraska football team.
