Nebraska football: The Huskers’ report card against Troy
What is going on with Nebraska football’s special teams? Following up a horrendous performance in week one, this unit found a way to be worse.
Another missed field goal was likely the difference in the game. Had they made it early in the game, the Huskers wouldn’t have needed to go for two on Spielman’s touchdown and instead the game might have gone to overtime.
Yes, Barrett Pickering hit two field goals (his first as a Husker) but that wasn’t enough to overcome the weird terribleness of this group.
There were more penalties on special teams, including not one, but two delay of game penalties. There was also the punt return for a touchdown that was absolutely the difference in the game.
There is not another unit on the Nebraska football team that has gotten an F in the post game report cards. There definitely isn’t another Cornhuskers unit that has gotten two straight Fs.
It’s incredibly frustrating that with all the mistakes the Huskers have made in the first two weeks, even mediocre play by this group could have the team 2-0 instead of 0-2.
Whatever is being taught in practice among this group, the Nebraska football coaching staff might need to go back to the drawing board.
