Nebraska football: The Huskers’ report card against Troy
The defensive backs for the Nebraska football team made some big improvements from week one to week two. It could be argued no unit made bigger improvements over the week.
After giving up over 300 yards passing against Colorado, the Blackshirts allowed just 110 yards through the air against Troy. Yes, some of that is because the Trojans are more run focused but Cornhusker DBs were better in general as well.
That includes an interception from cornerback Lamar Jackson. That was the first interception for a CB since 2016. No, you’re not reading that wrong, they corners didn’t have a single pick last year.
Tre Neal led the group with seven tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Aaron Williams also played pretty well again. The grade is not an A or an A+ for two reasons. Damion Willis had a 39-yard catch that set up a Troy touchdown.
There was also a pass interference penalty called on Willaims late in the game that allowed Troy to continue a drive. Sound familiar?
The argument could be made that the call tonight was rather ticky tack, but when you’re talking about the margin for error the Nebraska football team has right now, the defensive backs can’t allow that to even be a judgement call.
