Nebraska football: The Huskers’ report card against Troy
If there is a unit on the Nebraska football team that is going to challenge the defensive line for most improved this season so far, it’s the linebacker corps.
Luke Gifford and Tyrin Ferguson have both been breaths of fresh air after the poor linebacker play of 2017. Junior college transfer Will Honas introduced himself to Husker faithful as well as he led the team in tackles with eight.
Honas had three solo tackles, contributed on a tackle for loss and had a quarterback hurry. Gifford had just three tackles, but he made the most of them as two were for loss and a sack.
The unit doesn’t get an A because of a bad sequence of plays that saw Mo Barry kicked out of the game (meaning he’ll miss Michigan as well) for a targeting penalty that was also a late hit.
The very next play, another Husker linebacker recorded another late hit. The defense, in general, lost its composure at times on Saturday and the linebacker corps contributed to that.
