The Nebraska football team got an unexpected recruiting blow on Thursday afternoon when one of its top defensive back recruits committed to Indiana.

While the Nebraska football team prepares for its game against Troy, it got a bit of bad news. Tiawan Mullen announced where he plans on playing next year and it won’t be in Lincoln.

Mullen foreshadowed his decision earlier on Thursday morning when he said he would be picking between three teams. It’s a safe bet most Husker fans felt like they had a very good chance of landing the defensive back.

It appears Mullen couldn’t wait any longer, as he actually jumped the gun a bit on when he was planning on announcing. When he did finally announce, he said he was going to be an Indiana Hoosier.

It’s got to be especially grating on Cornhusker fans that he not only didn’t choose them, but he decided he was going to go to another Big Ten team. It’s also a bit of a surprise for some.

Mullen hails from Florida, where the Husker coaching staff certainly has a strong footprint. It should be pointed out that 247Sports predicted Mullen would be heading to Indiana over the Huskers.

It’s a bit of a shock that the Cornhuskers couldn’t reel in a 3-star defensive back out of Florida. There’s a chance the DB feels like he’ll have a better chance to start right away in Bloomington.

Tiawan Mullen is far from the only defensive back the Nebraska football team is looking at from the 2019 class.  The staff has definitely made sure they are covering their bases in case they do lose out in a battle like this.
