The Purdue Boilermakers opened their season with a loss but they only dropped one spot because they lost to a pretty good team and they looked pretty good in the loss. That is after Elijah Sindelar was lifted.

After winning the starting quarterback spot in fall camp, he struggled against the Northwestern Wildcats. He completed just 18 of 30 passes and he threw three interceptions.

That performance almost took Purdue out of the game. David Blough entered the game in the second half and almost led a comeback.

Blough was 12 of 16 for 74 yards and brought the team within four points thanks to a 10-0 run in the second half.

The Nebraska football team didn’t get to show off what it can do on Saturday thanks to a  severe thunderstorm. Yes, the Huskers have dropped a spot but that’s more about what other teams did. The Huskers will have a chance to move up quickly if they beat Colorado on Saturday.

The Maryland Terrapins are this week’s big risers in the Big Ten Power Rankings. That’s what beating the 23rd ranked team in the country will get you.

For a while, this looked like a runaway win for the Terps as they took a 24-7 lead. After the Longhorns charged back, Maryland was able to eventually hold them off and start the year with a win over Texas for the second straight year.

The question now becomes, is Maryland better than we all thought? Or are they just good when it comes to taking on the Longhorns?

This was supposed to be the year that Michigan made the jump to the next level. So far, so bad.

The Wolverines offense was supposed to be better under Shea Patterson. While the brand new starting quarterback was ok (20-30 for 227 yards and an interception) he was far from what the school’s fans expected. One has to hope Patterson is still going to be struggling when he plays the Nebraska football team.

The Wolverines trailed 21-3 against the Fighting Irish before they started to actually play. They stay this high in the rankings because they managed to outscore Notre Dame 14-3 after the initial surge.
