On Sunday, we got more information as to the thought process behind the scenes during the Nebraska football game’s weather delay.

Nebraska football fans are still waiting for the season to officially start. Thanks to a weather delay that turned into a cancellation, the Cornhuskers are going to be starting the year against Colorado next weekend.

On Saturday night, there had been talk about possibly moving the game to Sunday. There had also been questions about why the game wasn’t moved up from its 7:00 pm start time.

Sunday afternoon, Nebraska shed a bit more light on the thought process and why the contest ended up canceled instead of rescheduled.

As far as why the game wasn’t moved up, the administration believed there was going to be a window of time to play the game. It appears the storm front they had been monitoring materialized earlier in the evening than the two schools had first thought.

After the storm arrived, the two schools did meet to discuss moving the game to another day. This is why there was so much talk of a Sunday morning game.

Weather reports showed a much bigger window where there would be light rain on Sunday, if anything at all. Nebraska and Fox Sports both wanted to attempt to get the game in.

The Cornhuskers say it was Akron that was the thorn in the side. The MAC school said they couldn’t make staying another day work into their schedule.

Now that we know who to blame for the cancellation (at least if you believe Nebraska football’s official account) it’s time to move onto how the program is going to deal with the loss of the season opener.

Barring either an epic collapse or several big upsets, the Cornhuskers are likely going to be on the bubble between bowl eligible and not. The athletic department has said it’s looking to either play the Akron game in December or find an opponent for the Nebraska football team to play during it’s bye week.
