The Nebraska football team is going to be having a very big weekend. Not only is it the opener but many top prospects will be in Lincoln.

There have been few Saturdays as important to the future of the Nebraska football program in the last 30 years as this one. That’s not just because the entire fandom hopes the return of Scott Frost has finally begun the turnaround.

Saturday is going to be a big day for visits from some of the Cornhuskers’ top prospects. That list now includes 2020 running back Brison Cobbins.

Cobbins confirmed he will be heading to Lincoln this weekend on Twitter. Taking an unofficial visit, the Shawnee, Kansas native is an under the radar prospect that doesn’t yet own a Husker scholarship offer but it’s still early.

It will be interesting to see if Cobbins is someone that stays on the Huskers radar moving forward. The running back is tiny (5’7″ and 172 pounds) but he’s put up huge numbers in his first two seasons of high school football.

In his freshman year, he averaged 10.1 yards per carry, amassing 841 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season he averaged 10.9 YPC and put up 1,294 yards and 15 touchdowns.

While he isn’t someone who had the ball thrown to him a lot, he’s clearly a weapon out of the backfield. In his career, he has 20 catches for 237 yards and two more touchdowns.

This is already his second unofficial to Nebraska, having previously attended the Friday Night Lights camp back in June. Clearly, he has an interest in the Huskers, it’s just a matter of whether Frost and company develop an interest in him.

It’s possible Cobbins could become one of those preferred walk-on players that would be nice to grab from out of state. It’s something the program used to have some pretty good success with back in the good old days.
