Nebraska basketball lagging behind on in-state guard
The Nebraska basketball team has not yet offered Millard North guard Hunter Sallis. With Creighton now in on the prospect, Tim Miles should get on the ball.
While Tim Miles has been working overtime for the future of the Nebraska basketball team, there might be one player he has so far overlooked. The Huskers’ head coach has been looking at in-state prospects more than he has in the past.
One in-state prospect that hasn’t quite gotten Miles’ attention yet is Hunter Sallis. While Sallis is still very young (only 15) he is rapidly becoming one of the best players in the state. The shooting guard might end up being the best player in the 2021 class.
Creighton certainly believes the player is worth taking a flyer on. The Bluejays made an official scholarship offer on Wednesday.
They are not the first power basketball team to be going after Sallis. Ole Miss has already come through the door when it comes to offering the in-state star.
The fact of the matter is that there aren’t usually a ton of schools from outside Nebraska coming after players that grow up in Omaha or Lincoln. It happens every now and then, but this has never been a feeder state.
An SEC team coming calling on Sallis might even be a bigger threat than Creighton. When those schools do come calling, they can start to paint a picture of a star player making good outside his home city and state.
While Nebraska prospects have become better in the last few years, the lack of outside interest, for the most part, is why the Nebraska basketball program needs to make sure and keep Hunter Sallis in-house. In order to do that, they are going to need to offer him first. There’s very little doubt they couldn’t use a player like him on the roster.
The foot-dragging doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
