The Nebraska football team announced the four players that are going to be the captains for the 2018 season just days before the season kicks off.

Wanna know how you can tell we’re really close to the start of the Nebraska football season? The Cornhuskers have officially named their team captains.

On Thursday night, the Huskers announced four players that will lead the team. None of the names are likely going to surprise you a great deal.

Wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr, offensive lineman Jerald Foster, linebacker Luke Gifford and defense lineman Mick Stoltenberg are your 2018 team captains.

There are a couple of interesting tidbits coming from the selection of those four. First of all, and likely the most coincidental, three of the four are Nebraska natives.

Stoltenberg is from Gretna while Gifford and Foster are both from Lincoln. Only Stanley Morgan played his high school ball out of the state.

Of the four, Morgan is probably the biggest no-brainer of the bunch. When Mike Riley was fired, Morgan thought long and hard about leaving Nebraska.

He was likely thinking about hitting the NFL a year early just like his quarterback Tanner Lee. Even since Morgan decided he would return, he has walked the walk and talked the talk of a leader on the field and off.

The other interesting tidbit to take from this selection is that all four are seniors. It’s not a foregone conclusion that your team leaders are going to be seniors. Last year, there were two juniors.

That brings us to one other interesting tidbit. Jerald Foster is the only four of the group that is in his second consecutive season as a team captain. Last year both he and Tanner Lee were juniors named as captains.

Foster returns with the three other seniors to be a leader on and off the field for the Nebraska football team during what is sure to be a season full of firsts for many of these young men.
