Nebraska basketball: Turkish forward Yavuz Gültekin could be Huskers’ steal
The Nebraska basketball team is looking high and low for talent. They are in the final four for one of the best players in Maryland, by way of Turkey.
Nebraska basketball fans better start figuring out how to pronounce Yavuz Gültekin. The Maryland star power forward by way of Turkey certainly knows how to pronounce Lincoln at this point.
The forward, who is a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports named the final four teams he’s looking at earlier this month. The four that the prospect is still looking at are TCU, the Huskers, Northwestern and Georgetown.
Obviously, there is still a ways to go for the 2019 power forward but it’s clear the Cornhuskers have been getting into the minds of several recruits in the last few months. This is the second power forward that ranks among the best of the class that Nebrasketball has managed to catch the eye of.
Ben Carlson is quite a bit higher ranked than Gültekin, but the prospect who hails from overseas is certainly among the best in the state of Maryland. He’s actually the fourth-ranked player in Maryland and the 17th ranked power forward in the entire class.
Carlson is inside the Top 100 but Gültekin isn’t far behind. He’s also talked about the fact that he will be visiting Lincoln in the near future.
Something has changed when it comes to the Nebraska basketball program. The Cornhuskers are gaining the attention of some of the better players at all kinds of positions.
If they can reel in someone like Yavuz Gültekin it would be a very big deal. If they can then get some of the prospects they are looking at from the 2020 and 2021 class, the Nebraska basketball program can start looking like a recruiting powerhouse. As always, it seems like the 2018 season is going to be important in deciding what direction the program is going to go.
