Former Nebraska football quarterback Tristan Gebbia has found a home he’s likely familiar with.
It seems as if the final chapter of the Nebraska football/Tristan Gebbia soap opera has been written. The man who was competing for a starting quarterback job just four days ago has reportedly found his new home.
Gebbia has moved rather quickly since the Cornhuskers named Adrian Martinez the starting quarterback on Sunday. On Monday the university announced Gebbia was leaving.
On Tuesday, he withdrew from classes. He was then granted his official release.
It took just two days for Gebbia to apparently get his new school. Oregon State appears to be the quarterback’s new landing spot.

In fact, the Huskers’ misfortune over the last two weeks has been the Beavers’ gain. Gebbia is the second Cornhusker to leave Lincoln and head to Corvallis.
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone. New head coach Jonathan Smith, as Pete Thamel points out, recruited Gebbia pretty hard.
Smith is of course, a protege of former Nebraska football head coach Mike Riley. Riley is even listed as an “analyst” on the OSU staff.
It would seem that Oregon State is going to be running an offense that Gebbia will be more comfortable in. He will have to sit out the season, but will eligible to compete for the starting quarterback job in 2019.
That job will be wide open, (much as it was in Lincoln) in 2019 thanks to this being senior quarterback Jake Luton’s final season. While there are bound to be a few Nebraska football fans who hold a bit of a grudge, especially this close to the season starting, there really shouldn’t be.
Gebbia could have left with Patrick O’Brien and Tanner Lee earlier this year. The writing was on the wall that he was going to be hard pressed to fit into Frost’s offense.
Instead, he stayed and pushed Adrian Martinez. Hopefully, he made Martinez that much better. Nebraska football fans might owe Gebbia a little thanks in the end.
