Nebraska football: Scott Frost named among 10 best offensive masterminds
Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost has been named among the best offensive masterminds in the college football game.
Nebraska football fans have known for a while that Scott Frost is considered a pretty good offensive mind. The Tampa Bay Times recently released a list that ranked who they believe are the best offensive minds in the game and Frost not only made the list but was right up near the top.
The paper actually ranked all the FBS coaches and Frost finished at a staggering number four. The paper took a number of factors into account when it was amassing this list.
Obviously, when it comes to Frost, it took what he did as both a head coach and as an offensive coordinator. When you look at those things all together, it’s hard to argue against the fact that he’s one of the most talented offensive minds in college football.
Keep in mind that over the last five years, an offense under Frost has ranked in the top five in the country four times (2nd last year, 115th in 2016, 2nd in 2015, first in 2014 and fourth in 2013.)
Yes, he likely gets a pass for the 115th ranked offense because that was a team that had gone 0-12 the year before. He also still managed to get the team to six wins despite those offensive struggles.
When talking about passing offense rankings, it’s almost the same story. Over the last five years Frost has had the 2nd, 115th, 9th, 1st, and 5th ranked passing offenses. I feel like I need to point out once again that he went 6-6 in the regular season with a team that hadn’t won a game the year before with the 115th ranked offense.
The only coaches that placed higher than Frost’s fourth on the list were Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and Frost’s old boss, Chip Kelly. Before you say Nick Saban doesn’t belong on that list, the Times does plenty of work explaining why he has managed to put together some impressive offenses during his time at ‘Bama.
During a seven day stretch where it’s weirdly been a steady stream of bad news for the Nebraska football team, it’s nice to remember that Scott Frost has been one of the best offensive masterminds in the sport over the last few years and he’s coaching our Huskers.
