Former Nebraska football linebacker Avery Roberts announced he had found his new school on the same day Tristan Gebbia departed.

While Tristan Gebbia might be the most high profile departure from the Nebraska football team, the Huskers have had a number of transfers in the last few weeks.

Among the players who decided to leave Lincoln is linebacker Avery Roberts. One of the top recruits of the Mike Riley era, Roberts found himself getting buried on the depth chart.

Defensive back Will Jackson was in the same situation and was actually first out the door. While Gebbia was far from buried on the depth chart, he too felt it was better to go play somewhere else.

The quarterback might have just started his process, Roberts has officially found his new home. The linebacker has decided to go play at Oregon State.

Obviously, Roberts, like some other players that Mike Riley recruited, felt like he wanted to keep that relationship alive. The former head coach isn’t officially a member of the Beavers’ staff but he has been listed as an “analyst” for the program.

It might not even be Riley that was the real draw to Corvallis. Roberts’ position coach for a year, Trent Bray is the linebackers coach for the Beavers these days. It appears that the linebacker and Scott Frost’s coaching staff never really meshed.

During the spring, there was talk about the amount of work Roberts needed to do in order to crack the depth chart. Perhaps he felt that was more about how the Nebraska football coaching staff looked at him.

Whatever the reason, Avery Roberts will continue his career in the Pac 12 after he sits out the 2018 season.
