Nebraska football running back Tre Bryant announced his retirement on Friday. His teammates voiced their reactions to him calling it a career.

On Friday night, Tre Bryant confirmed the report that had surfaced earlier in the day. The man that was the featured back for Nebraska football this time last year, is retiring from the sport.

Bryant put up a post on his Twitter account explaining just why he was calling quits to his career. The goodbye message was heartfelt and heartbreaking.

Among the comments he made was the fact that he fell in love with football at a very early age. The problem was that “three knee surgeries later” the love of the game was being replaced by frustration.

As his head coach said yesterday, Bryant has had problems sleeping these days. Not because he’s been too excited or can’t stop thinking about his knee. He was having problems simply because he was in too much pain.

After weeks of trying to make a comeback, he called it quits. He ended the post saying he walked off the practice field on his last day as a player smiling. Bryant is at peace with his decision and for that reason, his teammates have been able to be supportive.

Offensive lineman Damion Daniels was one of the first Cornhuskers to respond to the announcement. His message was quick and easy “Love you family.”

Husker punter Caleb Lightbourn also went out of his way to make sure Bryant knew how he felt.

Defensive back Kieron Williams weighed in as well. The DB said that God had Bryant and everything was going to be ok.

Current Huskers aren’t the only ones who sent out warm wishes after the announcement. Former Huskers have clearly been keeping an eye on the program as well.

Former Husker and current Buffalo Bills receiver Brandon Reilly sent out a message expressing his respect for the way Bryant has handled the situation.
