The Nebraska basketball team had a big Tuesday.

When talking about success off the court, Nebraska basketball fans might be hard-pressed to identify a day that was better for the future of the program than Tuesday. Tim Miles and company managed to secure an in-state commitment and lock down an official visit of one of the best players in the 2020 class.

If we were talking about just a normal official visit, it probably wouldn’t be pushing the day to such a success. This visit, however, is special for a number of reasons.

Zaire Wade is a 6-2 point guard out of Chicago that already has an offer from Michigan State and now the Huskers. He also happens to be the son of NBA superstar Dwyane Wade.

Shortly after it was announced that the younger Wade received an offer from Nebraska on Tuesday, Zaire’s stepmom weighed in. That stepmom is none other than Omaha native and huge Husker fan, Gabrielle Union.

Union tweeted out that she, Zaire and Dwyane already have plans to come to see what the Cornhuskers have to offer on September 1. That is the Nebraska football team’s opening week of the 2018 season.

It’s a safe bet that the crowd is going to be mighty fired up for that game, even if it is against Akron. Miles has had no qualms about using the popularity of the football team help recruit basketball recruits. It’s safe to say he was rather happy to hear the family connection to Wade is going to be working overtime to get him to commit to the Huskers.

It’s possible Miles could use one of Wade’s potential new teammates to recruit him as well. The other piece of good news on Tuesday was the commitment of 2020 guard Donovan Williams.

Williams is a combo guard that already stands 6-5 and is considered to be one of the best players in the state for the 2020 class. Considering he’s in Lincoln, he could just take a 10-minute drive and come see Zaire Wade take in Memorial Stadium and everything on offer should the Chicago prospect decide to become a member of the Nebraska basketball team.
