It’s looking more and more likely that the Nebraska football team will be taking on the Ohio State Buckeyes with head coach Urban Meyer on the sidelines.

Urban Meyer is going to be learning his fate later this week. If reports floating around the Internet tonight can be believed, the Nebraska football team will be squaring off against him when he leads the Ohio State Buckeyes later this season.

Meyer has been on administrative leave for all of fall camp. He was placed on leave by the OSU administration after it was found he lied about knowing his former assistant coach had been repeatedly accused of spousal abuse.

For a time, it appears Meyer was done in Columbus. Now it appears he’s going to face a suspension at worst.

The school is expected to announce their findings on Thursday or Friday. Bret McMurphy, who was the reporter breaking the Zach Smith story, says he’s heard the suspension might be an even weaker slap on the wrist than you might expect.

McMurphy has reported that sources claim Urban Meyer’s suspension might already be taken care of. The university is apparently thinking the administrative leave he’s been on was long enough it might stand in for the suspension.

If Ohio State does follow through on the reported plans for Urban Meyer, it would mean he could be back at practice by the end of the week. This is despite the fact that only negative things have been brought forward about his former assistant coach.

One the one hand, Nebraska football fans should always want to take on teams at their best. That includes future Hall of Fame head coaches.

On the other hand, Urban Meyer absolutely lied about how much he knew about Smith and when. His explanation for why he lied was incredibly pathetic. It seems Ohio State allowing him back would be a major example of dropping the ball.
