The Nebraska football team had another scrimmage on Friday and its head coach’s comments seem to hint that the offense isn’t humming yet.

There’s been quite a bit of excitement surrounding the Nebraska football team this fall camp so far. There’s also been a ton of positivity.

Head coach Scott Frost and his staff have been accentuating the positive more than even coaches like Mike Riley have done in the last few years.

Presumably, most of those positive vibes come from an offense and a defense that have played very well at different parts of the preseason. It’s safe to say that some of the positive vibes were also because the staff wants as much confidence as possible entering the season.

On Friday, there might have been a bit of a chink in the armor built by that positivity from Frost. After yet another scrimmage that was clearly geared towards helping to figure out who the starting quarterback is going to be, Frost made some comments that might show the offense has some work to do to get where he wants it.

Frost started off the post-practice session by saying there really isn’t any separation between Adrian Martinez and Tristan Gebbia. In fact, he said that if the season started tomorrow, they would be sharing time under center.

It was his comments after those that might be a bit of a warning to Husker fans who think the offense is going to come out humming right away. Frost said that during the scrimmage, the offense struggled when defensive coordinator Chinander was running his regular “full go” defense.

He added that when the defensive coordinator eased up a bit, the offense looked better. There lies the rub.

It’s a safe bet that no defense the Cornhuskers go up against will be calling off the dogs. Apparently, the biggest problem was several drive-killing bad snaps. It’s a safe bet there were other hiccups here and there.

This isn’t to say that the Cornhuskers’ offense can’t be very, very good as the fall and the season goes along. What it does say is that there are indeed going to be hiccups.
