Nebraska football team seeing separation in quarterback race for first time
The Nebraska football team’s quarterback race might have a front-runner. At the very least the competition has been whittled down.
We are now officially into the second week of Nebraska football’s fall camp. After quite a bit of talk by defensive coordinator Erik Chinander that he’s seen some separation between starters and backups in his units, it appears that situation is being mirrored at the quarterback spot.
Last week, the coaches talked about the fact that the position was a three-man race. Tristan Gebbia and Adrian Martinez were no-brainers.
Andrew Bunch being in the mix raised some eyebrows, considering he is a walk-on. After a Sunday scrimmage and two more practices completed this week, the coaches have hinted Bunch at least, has dropped out of competition for the starting job.

That means the race is down to the two players we all knew would be in the race the longest. The only way Scott Frost or the rest of the offensive coaching staff would have bumped Adrian or Tristan out is if they had some real problems picking up the offense.
That was a possibility in all of Husker fans’ worst nightmares, but unlikely barring something very strange going on. So when can we expect to know the starter?
The good news is Frost has said he has no interest in keeping those involved in suspense longer than he has to keep them in suspense. At the beginning of camp, he said he wouldn’t name a starter any later than a week before the Akron game.
Nebraska football fans were hoping the answer would actually come sooner. It appears the timetable to get down to one candidate isn’t speeding up anytime soon.
