The Nebraska basketball team wasted little time in filling the hole it recently got in the roster when Jordy Tshimanga transferred.

When center Jordy Tshimanga announced he was leaving the Nebraska basketball team, people were rightly worried about the loss of a big man. While Jordy wasn’t one that was getting a ton of minutes, he was someone who could go up against other team’s big men from time to time in the post.

For a while, it looked as though the Cornhuskers were simply going to operate without a replacement in the upcoming season. That myth was put to bed on Thursday when JUCO power forward Dedoch Chan announced he had committed to the Cornhuskers.

Chan comes from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he put up solid numbers in the frontcourt. Chan averaged 17 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per contest in his only season at the Community College.

He’ll come to the Huskers as a sophomore and because he’s being added to the 2018 roster will be able to play this season. That last tidbit could be huge for a Nebraska basketball team that is expected to make some real noise this fall and winter.

Much like Scott Frost has done with the Nebraska football team, Tim Miles has been good when it comes to mixing and matching high school, transfer and JUCO transfer players to make a roster that is among the most talented in the Big Ten.

Isaiah Roby and Tanner Borchardt had been basically the only players on the team that could be counted as “big men.” With the addition of Chan, the Nebraska basketball team is going to be back to having a bit more depth and a bit more size on the 2018 roster. That might be all the Huskers need to take the next step this year.
