The Nebraska football team got its 16th commit for the 2019 class and the second in as many days on Monday afternoon.

When the Nebraska football staff’s recruiting efforts are going good, they get commitments in bunches. Spoiler alert: the staff’s recruiting efforts are going really good.

For the second time in two days, the Cornhuskers added a commit for their 2019 class. On Monday afternoon it was Georgia defensive back Quinton Newsome announcing his intention of becoming a Husker.

Newsome is a 3-star safety out of Suwanee, Georgia. Despite being ranked just the 68th best player in the state, he’s clearly got some talent that has caught the eye of many a coach.

Newsome carries a grand total of 20 offers. Those include Georgia and Georgia Tech from his home state, and Michigan State and Minnesota from the Big Ten. Auburn and Alabama have also gone after the prospect hard. On July 23, Newsome

announced

the Huskers were in his top three, along with Georgia and Auburn.

Standing at 6-2 and weighing in at 180 pounds, he’s got the body to be a heck of a hitter from the Huskers secondary. He’s also got the speed needed to help out in pass coverage.

The commitment comes just days after the soon-to-be-high school senior took an unofficial visit to Lincoln. The prospect certainly liked what he saw, though the announcement coming so soon afterward was a bit of a surprise move.

The same can be said for the player the Cornhuskers got Sunday night. Michael Lynn was an offensive tackle NU was hard after, though there were few indications he was going to be pulling the trigger on a commit.

The news of the most recent commitment means the Nebraska football team has now grabbed 11 since June 1. All of this is without the benefit of using a single official visit.

Head coach Scott Frost has said he wants all official visits to be taken during the fall. It appears that approach hasn’t hurt recruiting efforts even a little bit.
