Can the Nebraska football team improve dramatically in the defensive secondary?

Some people forget the Nebraska football team was bad on defense, but the pass defense wasn’t really the achilles heel it’s been in the past. At the same time, the secondary wasn’t really a strength.

The Huskers ranked 61st in the nation in average yards allowed through the air. That’s in large part because they were 115th in the country against the rush.

One of the reasons the Cornhuskers really need to be improving in 2018 is because they caused very few turnovers. In fact, they were tied for 72nd in the country in interceptions. They recorded just nine in 2017.

In order to help make the secondary that much better, defensive coordinator Erik Chinander brought in a ton of talent in the secondary. The question is going to be just how quickly they pick up the system.

The UCF secondary tied for fifth in the country in 2017 with 18 interceptions. On the other hand, the Knights finished 111th in the country in average passing yards allowed. Will the Nebraska football team be able to take the best of Chinander’s secondary play and jettison the bad parts?
