When it comes to Nebraska recruiting, there may not be a bigger 2021 target than Jake Garcia.

Those who follow Nebraska recruiting know that Jake Garcia would be a big get. The Harbor City, California quarterback could end up being the top quarterback in the entire 2021 class.

He’s also got ties to the Nebraska football team thanks to his dad having been a Cornhusker. If the Huskers hope to land Garcia in the end, they are going to have to fight off some stout competition.

The competition added one more school this weekend when Garcia was officially offered by Florida State. The Seminoles coming calling means Garcia now has nine official offers and almost all of those are from Power 5 schools.

Keep in mind he won’t be able to sign on the dotted line for a couple of years and then look at the squads that are already hard after the pro-style quarterback. In addition to Nebraska and Florida State, the prospect has been offered by Florida, Arizona State, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, USC, and San Jose State.

The Huskers have managed to recruit California schools quite well over the last few years. Granted, quite a few of those California players came during Mike Riley’s era. It’s a safe bet even those Golden State players are going to be talking to their former teammates and foes about how much they like the new staff.

When it comes to Jake Garcia, there’s a long way to go. Nebraska recruiting efforts are going to have to keep up the pressure, even as they know they aren’t going to see any payoff until next year at the very earliest.

The bottom line is that even if the Nebraska football team was able to secure this quarterback early, they are going to have a fight right down to signing day in order to get him to Lincoln.
