Nebraska basketball: 3 key points on the departure of Jordy Tshimanga
Does the loss of Jordy Tshimanga cripple the Nebraska basketball team? Here are three key points on his departure.
The Nebraska basketball team got some very unhappy news late Thursday night. Center Jordy Tshimanga has decided he no longer wants to be part of the Cornhuskers program.
The news broke seemingly out of the blue, catching many people who were expecting nothing but good things this season a little off guard.
Chris Basnett of the Lincoln Journal Star was one of the first members of the media to get official word from head coach Tim Miles about the departure:
"“Jordy called me tonight and asked for his release. The University of Nebraska and our program wish Jordy and his family the best.”"
At the moment, there hasn’t been any official word from the player himself. His Twitter account has been mostly retweets and small comments about his general mood.
The coming days are going to be interesting if only because this Husker team appeared to be one that had completely come together and was laser-focused on the mission ahead.
Tshimanga’s departure does not completely derail that mission. It does dent what had been some pretty strong armor when talking about how hard it was going to be to repeat the kind of success the squad had a year ago.
In 2017, the Nebraska basketball team came out of nowhere to be one of the best teams in the Big Ten. The league and the rest of college basketball is going to see them coming this time around.
Now the Cornhuskers are going to be going about their business without a 6’11” center in the middle of the offense and defense. At least they won’t have this particular center in the middle of their game plan. So what are the three key points Nebraska basketball fans should be aware of when it comes to the departure of Jordy Tshimanga?
