The Nebraska football team’s move to have morning practices is historic and it will benefit the team in more ways than one.

For the first time in anyone’s memory, the Nebraska football team is going to be holding morning practices. This move was something new head coach Scott Frost outlined almost from the first day he arrived on campus.

Frost and his staff at UCF had changed their team’s practices from the afternoon to the morning and as we all know, saw almost instant positive results. As the Lincoln Journal Star points out, while Frost might have wanted this since day one, it was no easy task.

Now that it’s done, the coaching staff has been pointing out that there is more than one benefit for the team. The Cornhuskers will have their mornings open to practice until 11:30 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Frost and his staff have said they think that the players are able to have more productive practices in the morning than later in the day. Frost pointed out that Wednesdays are generally the most physically intense of a game week, and players will have a few more hours to recover than they would if they are practicing on Wednesday evening.

The Huskers coaching staff also pointed out that making sure their players all have to take classes in the afternoon and evening, there’s a better chance they will actually go to class. It’s easier for a student to skip a morning class, by sleeping in, than it is in the afternoon.

On the flipside, Nebraska football players aren’t going to be skipping practices, no matter how early Frost and company set the start times. They certainly won’t if they want to be part of the rebuilding process fans of the program are hoping to see right away.
