Nebraska football being a long shot to win the Big Ten isn’t new but the official odds have been updated by at least one organization.

The excitement surrounding the Nebraska football team and Scott Frost is going through the roof. The problem is that most of that excitement has to do with the future of the program, rather than the 2018 season.

While some Cornhusker fans are hoping for a miracle season, most believe this is indeed going to be a rebuilding year. Updated odds for the potential Big Ten conference champion shows that the oddsmakers certainly don’t believe it’s going to be a great season.

Those odds, from LVSuperbook, show that Ohio State is easily the odds-on favorite to win the conference. That’s not really a surprise.

Most people think OSU is going to win the B1G. The Buckeyes are currently listed as 10/11 favorites. That means if you bet 11 dollars, on the Buckeyes to win the conference, you’ll get 10 dollars back.

Ohio State is the only team that won’t be offering a real solid payout should you bet on them to win the B1G. Wisconsin comes in second place with 5/2 odds. Michigan is third with 4/1 odds.

When it comes to the Huskers, the odds are rather large. A Cornhusker fan that bets a single dollar stands to win $40 should Nebraska win the conference.

The good news is that Iowa has the same odds as the Huskers. The bad news is once again the Nebraska football team is being tied to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

40/1 certainly aren’t good odds, but they are far from the worst in the Big Ten. Illinois and Rutgers are tied for the worst odds in the conference at 1000/1.

Right ahead of those schools are Maryland and Indiana at 300/1. The full list is below:

  • Ohio State 10/11
  • Wisconsin 5/2
  • Michigan 4/1
  • Penn State 5/1
  • Michigan State 12/1
  • Iowa 40/1
  • Nebraska 40/1
  • Northwestern 80/1
  • Purdue 80/1
  • Minnesota 100/1
  • Indiana 300/1
  • Maryland 300/1
  • Illinois 1,000/1
  • Rutgers 1,000/1

Nebraska football fans might be a bit annoyed they are looking at 40/1 odds, but the fact of the matter is that the odds could have been quite a bit worse.
