This would be a big get for the Nebraska football team.

One of the Nebraska football team’s top targets at defensive end is going to be picking the team he commits to “very soon.” That comes from the player’s own “mouth” in the form of his Twitter page.

Jermaine Johnson II announced on his page on Sunday afternoon that he would soon be making his final decision. On Monday afternoon, he announced he will be cutting the list of schools he’s considering down to five.

Considered a 4-star defensive end by 247Sports, the Huskers are expected to be among the top five at the very least. Having a former high school teammate in Lincoln likely helps Scott Frost and company’s cause when it comes to officially reeling him in.

Johnson went to Eden Prairie high alongside Cornhusker receiver JD Spielman. It’s a safe bet Spielman hasn’t been shy about trying to get the pass rusher to take a longer look at Lincoln.

Last season, Johnson played for Independence Community College in Kansas where he had one heck of a college debut. In 2018, he racked up 58 tackles and eight sacks. He also had three fumble recoveries.

Boasting 20 total offers from some of the best schools in the country, getting Johnson to continue to look Nebraska’s way would be a rather big deal. Getting him to commit is going to be a heck of a hill to climb.

In preparation of his Top 5 and cut down list, Johnson has been taking a ton of official and unofficial visits. In May, he took unofficials to Minnesota and Georgia.

In June he unofficially visited Arizona, Texas A&M, and Texas. He also took official visits to Colorado and Oregon. When it comes to trying to look into the crystal ball and see what that might mean for the future, things are definitely foggy.

The good news for the Nebraska football team is that Ryan Held is Johnson’s official recruiter. Held has already proven himself to be someone who can lock recruits down.

While we don’t know more about the Jermaine Johnson II’s commitment date, we do know he’s going to be announcing his Top 5 on Monday night at 7:00 PM.
