Nebraska football fans thought they might have had another commit on Monday when a rather famous actress made an interesting announcement.

It’s been a weird six to 10 months for the Nebraska football team. The program has seen the entire coaching staff get turned over.

The Cornhuskers have seen the talent on the team get a boost as well while a number of players that were here have now departed. Of all the things that have gone on since Scott Frost and company took over, the one thing Nebraska fans haven’t is an incorrect report of a commitment.

We can now check that particular happening off the list, at least it appears that way. Even weirder than Husker Nation being incorrectly told they had a brand new cornerback, is who did the telling.

Tyrik Henderson visited Lincoln over the past weekend and is apparently playing for a chance to get a scholarship offer. He’s doing that because he has not earned an offer from the Husker staff just yet.

Despite not having an official offer, rumors began flying that he had officially committed thanks to Henderson’s famous inlaw. Actress Taraji P. Henson happens to be related to Henderson and it was on her Instagram account that she posted the defensive back had committed to the Nebraska football team.

In a picture that featured herself and Henderson smiling and wearing Husker garb she posted, “proud of my Lil cousin @tyrikhenderson6 joining the #nebraskacornhuskers #CornerBack following in his big cuz @kelvinhayden footsteps 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 We coming to the games with y’all @gabunion and @dwyanewade.”

What we now know is that the social media post was a little premature. It’s been confirmed now that not only hasn’t Henderson committed, he hasn’t been offered.

This is one of those situations that might not get sorted out for a while now. The most obvious answer is that Henderson has been talking about how much he wants to commit to the Huskers and Henson didn’t hear him right.

The actor might not understand exactly how college football works. Whatever the cause, he post brought more confusion than anything. What is clear is that if the Nebraska football team does choose to offer Tyrik Henderson will commit. Now it’s all about whether or not there’s a spot on the roster for him.
