Just how good was the receiver corps for the Nebraska football team in 2008? Not one but two receivers tallied more than 60 catches in the season.

Those were the first two times that a receiver had 60 or more catches in a season. Remember when we thought the future was bright for Bo Pelini?

Nate Swift‘s performance that year was a big contributor. Unlike Todd Peterson, Swift’s numbers didn’t come out of nowhere, but it’s safe to assume people didn’t see 63 catches for 941 yards and 10 touchdowns coming.

In his freshman year, Swift put together what was a rather impressive performance for a first-year Husker. That year he got 45 catches for 641 yards and seven touchdowns.

That was nothing compared to his senior season numbers. Those numbers included 11 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a win against Baylor and seven catches for 111 yards and a TD against Kansas.

It’s unfortunate that the former Nebraska football star couldn’t take his game to the next level and play in the NFL. He had the ability to haul down catches the Cornhusker program hasn’t had much in its long history.
