The 2017 season was a bad one for the Nebraska football team as a whole. For wide receiver JD Spielman it was actually a pretty good one.

The freshman wide receiver who is the son of Chris Spielman put together arguably the best season any freshman Husker has put together not named Tommie Frazier.

Spielman finished the year with 55 catches for 830 yards. If there was a negative to the season, it was the fact that he had just two touchdowns.

The lack of end zone time was due largely because the offense in general was pretty bad. Despite the fact that he didn’t find a bunch of touchdowns, he had a hell of a season.

Amid that season, Spielman got himself into the Husker record books in a couple of different ways. His 11 catches against Ohio State tied him for third most in a single game.

His 830 yards puts him seventh when it comes to receiving yards in a season for the Nebraska football team. Perhaps the thing that really makes this a great season is what there might be to come. He put up these numbers in an offense that struggled most of the year, while he was brand new to college football.
