Nebraska recruiting is about to rev into overdrive this weekend.

When it comes to Nebraska recruiting, this weekend is one of those that could yield some pretty big results. If everything goes right, the Nebraska football team could be adding yet another JUCO transfer who will eligible for the fall.

Jonathan Alexander is one of, if not the best safety in the JUCO ranks this year. He’s confirmed yet again that he’s visiting Lincoln for the team’s second Friday Night Lights event tomorrow.

One of the reasons the Huskers want to get Alexander to be  a member of the team is because they see some real flexibility on where he can play. The prospect told the Lincoln Journal Star the Cornhuskers are looking at him playing linebacker.

The plan, according to Alexander is that Scott Frost, Erik Chinander and the coaching staff want a linebacker who is great in pass coverage. Someone who doesn’t need to “leave the field on third down.”

The defensive star says the Cornhuskers came into the picture about a month ago. He says they’ve stepped up their recruiting in the last couple of weeks.

That doesn’t mean he’s a done deal. The safety/linebacker/jack of all trades recently visited Louisiana-Lafayette and seemed to really like what he saw.

When talking about a player like Alexander, it’s clear he wants to go somewhere where he can contribute right away. While the Nebraska football team is thin at several defensive positions, he’s still going to have to compete against some great players.

The Nebraska recruiting approach is going to have to convince him he’ll not only get on the field earlier but also win more games in Lincoln. They’ll have the chance to make that pitch, and maybe keep him here longer than he thought he was staying, when all is said and done.
