When it comes to Nebraska recruiting, the football team took a step forward when they were named among the favorites for a talented linebacker.

Scott Frost and his staff have been moving fast and furiously when it comes to Nebraska recruiting. The football team hosted a number of players over the weekend.

Some came down for the Friday Night Lights event. Some came down for unofficial visits outside that camp.

One unofficial visitor who made it down this weekend seems to have been so impressed with what he saw that he named the Cornhuskers among his eight favorite teams.

Daniel Heimuli made the announcement that he had teased the night before. He named his Top Eight teams. In addition to the Huskers, he named the Alabama Crimson Tide, Washington, UCLA, TCU, Ole Miss, Oregon and Utah.

That list of teams means the Huskers are going to have a pretty rough road ahead of them. The four-star linebacker is right now considered a heavy lean to USC but even if he doesn’t go to the Trojans, the Crimson Tide are going to be a tough squad to fight off.

The Cornhuskers can at least take solace in the fact they’ve already beaten Alabama off for one player this month. Running back Ronald Thompkins had been a target of Nick Saban before he committed to the Nebraska football team.

It seems as though the Huskers have moved up the charts for Heimuli fairly quickly. He’s not a name that was being tossed around as a possible get even a month ago.

His trip to Lincoln over the weekend seems to have put them on the map with him. If there are signs to hang onto that he might be one that could be pulled to Lincoln, it’s that he announced his Top Eight so soon after that visit. When it comes to Nebraska recruiting, it’s the little things the staff does right that wins players like Heimuli over.
