Sometimes even Nebraska recruiting efforts don’t play out the way you thought they would. Such is the case with a talented WR target going elsewhere.

While June has been filled with wins for the Nebraska recruiting efforts, the Huskers lost out on a talented receiver this weekend. Nolan Groulx, a receiver out of North Carolina chose the Wake Forest Demon Deacons over all other comers.

Those comers included the Nebraska football team, which had been hoping his interest in the Big Ten would bring him to Lincoln.

Groulx has committed once before. The receiver had been pledged to the Wisconsin Badgers.

When he decided to open his recruitment again earlier this spring, Badger fans didn’t take it well, to say the least. Perhaps it was their reaction that convinced Groulx he needed to stick close to home.

Even if he did want to stay in North Carolina or the surrounding areas, Wake Forest has to be a bit of a surprise. South Carolina, North Carolina State, and West Virginia had all offered the receiver as well.

Both Rivals and 247 have the receiver listed as a four-star prospect. 247Sports was pretty confident that if he didn’t end up recommitting to Wisconsin he was headed to South Carolina.

While it seems somewhat callous to point out, it’s possible the Nebraska recruiting efforts haven’t failed completely just yet. It’s clear Groulx wants to have his recruiting cycle over and done with. It’s also clear he can be swayed. Wake Forest seems like a better fit for the receiver if only because it does indeed reside in his region. There still seems like there could be a chance that the Nebraska football team could sweep in and show him what he could do if he decided to come to Lincoln. There’s still time, though it’s already starting to run out.
