Ahman Green not only had one of the best seasons in the history of Nebraska football but he likely doesn’t get enough credit as one of the best to ever put on the pads for the Cornhuskers.

Unlike people like Keith Jones and Ken Clark, Green isn’t sometimes overlooked because he played on squads that have been easily forgotten because they didn’t win anything.

Green is sometimes overlooked because he played during the best era of Nebraska football ever. That era had a ton of great running backs and to some degree that has sapped the excitement over what the Omaha product was able to do on the football field.

His first year as a Husker, he shared time with Lawrence Phillips and still managed to run for over 1,000 yards and 13 TDs. The next season, he saw a dropoff.

Because of that dropoff, it’s safe to say the season he had in 1997 was a bit unexpected. That final year in a Huskers uniform, he ran for 1,877 yards and an insane 22 touchdowns.

Averaging 6.8 yards per carry, Green came just 18 yards shy of 2,000 yards from scrimmage thanks to 14 catches and 105 yards receiving.
