When Ronald Thompkins committed to the Nebraska football team on Friday, questions arose about what it might mean for the other two running back commits.

Nebraska football fans are about to see the level of commitment one of the Huskers’ newest commits has to the program. Rahmir Johnson was the last running back to commit to the Cornhuskers, before Friday.

When Ronald Thompkins committed to the Huskers on Friday, it meant that Nebraska now had three running back commits in the 2019 class. It’s, of course, possible that all three are going to stick around.

It’s also not ridiculous to think that one of the three, Thompkins, Johnson or Thomas Grayson will decide they’d rather play somewhere where there’s a little less competition for their position.

The early returns are in and at least Rahmir Johnson is playing nice. Johnson was, in fact, one of the first Huskers, active roster or recruit to tweet his congratulations and welcome to Thompkins.

Grayson hasn’t said anything about the newest commit, but that doesn’t really mean anything. The Tulsa running back is generally pretty quiet on his Twitter account.

Johnson’s “welcome to the family” is at the very least an olive branch and a reaching out to a player that Husker fans hope will be his future teammate.

This is the danger of recruiting and it’s one of the dangers of getting this many commits so early in the cycle. There’s plenty of time for those recruits to see who else the staff is going after.

The upside is that Scott Frost and company also have plenty of time to make it clear to Rahmir Johnson that they have good plans for all the running backs they are bringing in.

The bottom line is that the Nebraska football team is going to need to restock the running backs stable in the coming seasons. When it comes to Rahmir Johnson and Ronald Thompkins it looks like the relationship is off on the right foot.
