A recent interview of Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost allowed him to reiterate his position.

The Nebraska football team is the longest of longshots to get into the College Football playoffs this season. That didn’t stop its head coach, Scott Frost from once again making it clear he wants those playoffs to expand to an eight-team format.

If there is a coach in the NCAAs who should be listened to right now when it comes to needed changes to the playoff format, it’s Frost. He and his staff are fresh off taking Central Florida to a 13-0 season that included beating Auburn in their bowl game.

Despite that record, the team didn’t even sniff a playoff seeding. UCF hasn’t taken the snubbing well.

During the school’s Spring Game, they unveiled a National Championship banner. They’ve also had National Championship rings made.

During a recent appearance on the Rich Eisen show, the now Cornhuskers’ coach talked about how much he would like the playoff standard to move from four teams to eight. At the same time, he admitted there would be teams left out even if it did expand.

"“I’d love to see it be an eight-team playoff. There are always going to be situations arise where somebody gets shut out of the thing and it’s a shame that that had to happen to [UCF], but that doesn’t take away from anything that group accomplished.”"

When it comes to arguments that people have made in favor of the four-team playoff, such as the claim that it would make the season too long, Frost wasn’t buying it.

“If you’re going to go to eight, then you start the playoff earlier.” He added, “Speaking for myself, if I knew I was in the playoff, I would gladly sacrifice a ‘bowl experience’ to get the playoff started.”

When Frost talks “bowl experience” he is likely talking about the days where teams go and tour the town and attend dinners in their honor. That can be fun if it’s the first time the players have gotten to do that. It can also be exhausting if it’s old hat.

Scott Frost might eventually get his wish. The Nebraska football head coach is far from the only voice calling for a change to how the College Football playoff works. At the same time, if change does come, it likely isn’t coming anytime soon.
