Nebraska football fans who haven’t heard of Brian Lewerke need to study up fast. The Michigan State quarterback is a big reason why the Spartans went from being one of the worst teams in the Big 10, to one of the best.

Lewerke doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses if 2017 is any judge. The MSU QB threw for 2,793 yards on 59 percent completion percentage. He tossed 20 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

Those numbers include 340 yards against Notre Dame and back to back 400-yard games against Northwestern (445 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Penn State (400 yards and two touchdowns).

If those passing numbers are making you sick to your stomach, then don’t look at his rushing numbers. Lewerke is someone that can kill you on the ground when you find a way to bottle him up through the air.

Last season he ran for 559 yards and five touchdowns. That was a follow up to running for 149 yards in four games in his freshman season. His best game rushing was the last of the year.

In their bowl game victory over the Washington State Cougars, Brian Lewerke led the Spartans by running for 73 yards on 14 carries to go along with his 213 yards and three TDs through the air.
