Jordan Westerkamp and the only Hail Mary win in Nebraska football history

The Nebraska football team had a couple of year stretch where there were plenty of drama-filled games. The stretch included that run against McNeese State by Ameer Abdullah.

It also included an improbable win against the Northwestern Wildcats. Since the Huskers joined the Big Ten, the two teams have had quite the rivalry.

The rivalry came to a head in a November, 2013 game when the Huskers struggled against the Wildcats as they turned the ball over four times. Those turnovers and the inability of Bo Pelini’s defense to stop Northwestern’s run game put the team in a precarious situation.

The team was down 24-20 with just and far too many yards to go. Things were even worse because quarterback Tommy Armstrong was out of the game.

Ron Kellogg Jr was in the game and was struggling as well. On the last play of the game, Kellogg heaved it up with the prayer that the play’s name suggests. When the ball came down, Jordan Westerkamp came down with it in the end zone.

It’s the only time the Nebraska football team won a game using the hail mary.
