Eric Crouch and the Black 41 Flash Reverse saves Nebraska football against Oklahoma

Walk up to any die-hard Nebraska football fan and say “Black 41 Flash Reverse” and they will likely know exactly what you are talking about.

For those that don’t, that’s the name of the play that had Mike Stuntz throw a touchdown pass to eventual Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch.

The Cornhuskers quarterback had handed the ball off to a running back, and then ran down the sideline. Meanwhile, the running back had pitched the ball to Stuntz on an apparent reverse.

When Stuntz stopped in his tracks and instead dropped back to pass, he caught the Oklahoma defense flatfooted.

He also threw one heck of a pass and found Eric Crouch behind the defenders who took it to the end zone. That play ended up being the game-winner and kept the Huskers chances at a National title alive.

It turned out the team wasn’t quite good enough to win that title but no one knew that at the time. The play has gone down in Nebraska football history as one of the best trick plays in the program’s long run. It probably cemented Crouch as someone who deserved the Heisman to boot.
