ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit has an interesting connection to the newest addition to the Nebraska football team, and he likes his school choice.

When linebacker Jackson Hannah committed to the Nebraska football team, there were plenty of Husker fans plenty excited about the addition. It turns out that Cornhusker fans aren’t the only ones excited about the commitment.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit might be one of the most surprising people on the planet to give Hannah a shoutout and a big congratulations for deciding on the Huskers.

After it became public that Hannah had chosen the Cornhuskers, Herbstreit gave him a big-time shoutout.

“Congratulations bud. Good for you!! You picked a great school and an outstanding coach. Timing couldn’t be better. Wish you all the best and look forward to watching you play in Lincoln. In the meantime let’s go get that State Title for team 120!!”

The only thing better than a national analyst giving a public shoutout to the newest Husker might be the shoutout he just gave Nebraska’s head coach.

Longtime fans of the program have a longstanding feud with the former Buckeyes quarterback and television personality. That’s largely because he got quite angry when the Cornhuskers were picked as the greatest team in college football history.

Years later, he got into a bit of a back and forth with Husker fans over the state of their program. It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t point out that he’s also said complimentary things about the Huskers now and again.

Still, it’s interesting to see a public figure going out of his way to celebrate a kid going to a school he has no ties to. It was a bit of a mystery in fact.

It’s not like Herbstreit is someone who makes a habit out of congratulating players for committing to the Huskers. It turns out a return tweet from Jackson Hannah shed some light on why the linebacker stood out for the ESPN analyst.

It turns out Nebraska football’s newest commit plays high school football with Kirk’s son, Jake Herbstreit.

It can’t hurt to have the endorsement of an ESPN analyst under your belt, whether you are Jackson Hannah or the Cornhuskers.
