Luke McCaffrey is a dual-threat quarterback in every sense of the word. The fact of the matter is he might be considered a triple-threat quarterback

The Nebraska football team has long talked about wanting to make sure they get quarterbacks who can run the ball almost as well as they can throw it. This Colorado product fits that bill.

Last season, playing for Valor Christian High School, McCaffrey threw for 878 yards, six touchdowns and just three interceptions. Perhaps burdened a bit by a school that leans more on the run than the pass, it’s important to note his final stats weren’t hampered by struggles in the pocket.

While his yardage and touchdown passing numbers don’t leap off the page, his 76 percent completion percentage should. This isn’t someone who had to pass and made it work.

When McCaffrey was allowed to throw the ball, he did it well. When he had to run, he did that well too.

In addition to his passing stats, the Colorado native carried 80 times for 548 yards and nine touchdowns. That 6.9 yards per average was a follow up to his sophomore year when he averaged 10.7 yards per carry in part-time duty.

Because of the way Valor Christian’s roster is set up, there’s a bit of a quirk in McCaffrey’s stat line. The quarterback completed quite a few passes but he also caught quite a few.

McCaffrey caught 19 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown. That was a follow up to his sophomore year where he played out in the flat than under center and caught 47 passes.

Even if Luke McCaffrey never plays a position other than quarterback for the Nebraska football team, it’s clear he’s got loads of athleticism to lean on.
