The Nebraska football team is going to be going head to head with an old conference foe for the services of Grant Treiber.

Scott Frost and the rest of the Nebraska football staff have made it clear they are looking to rebuild the offensive line in their image. The Cornhuskers took another step in that direction on Thursday with an official offer to South Dakota lineman Grant Treiber.

Treiber is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports and has the big, but athletic body the Huskers are looking for in their system. Standing at 6-6 and weighing in at 280 pounds, Treiber is considered the second-best player in the state of North Dakota this year.

He’s also the 71st ranked offensive lineman in the entire 2019 class. While the Cornhuskers don’t have to worry much about losing Treiber to an in-state school, since they don’t have an FBS team, there are a couple of old conference rivals high on the lineman’s list.

Iowa State appears to be the team to beat, but Missouri is also in the mix. From the Big Ten, it looks as though Minnesota might be pesky as well.

On the same day Nebraska offered, the offensive lineman also received an offer from Oklahoma State, yet another former Big 12 rival. The Oregon Ducks jumped into the fray at the end of April.

In all, Treiber has 12 offers and eight of those are from FBS Power 5 schools. The fight for this particular lineman is going to be fierce and likely going to be long.

Having said that, the fight should be one the Nebraska football team can win. The key is going to be getting Grant Treibor on campus. If Frost and company can do that, they should be able to show why Lincoln is a better choice than the alternative potential landing spots.
