The Nebraska football team added its second commit of Friday when Arizona Western offensive lineman Desmond Bland made his announcement.

One of the best JUCO players in the country committed to the Nebraska football team on Friday afternoon. Offensive lineman Desmond Bland made his announcement on his Twitter page, adding to a very busy Friday for the Cornhusker program.

Earlier in the day, the Huskers landed a grad transfer in the form of Vaha Vainuku. Shortly after, the Nebraska baseball team got their own JUCO commit in Aaron Palensky.

Bland’s commitment means a Nebraska offensive line that was at least one man short, with the retirement from football of Mike Decker is now bolstered.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Desmond Bland is the second best offensive guard in the JUCO ranks and the 41st best player overall. The schools that were after him certainly seem to indicate that he was a hot commodity.

In addition to the Huskers, Arizona, Iowa State, Louisville, Memphis and Missouri had all offered scholarships. The Huskers were the latest to offer, on March 29.

If Arizona Western sounds familiar it’s because the Huskers appear to be building quite the pipeline there. Running back Greg Bell and wide receiver Jaron Woodyard both played for the Junior College last season.

It’s a safe bet having a couple of former teammates helped the sales job when it came to Desmond Bland. Considering he was a 2016 NJCAA first-team All-American, it’s no surprise that the Huskers wanted to land this prospect badly.

The Nebraska football team has had a spate of players leaving the program. It has appeared quite a few of those players left because they weren’t going to fit the current system. Scott Frost and company have wasted little time in filling the roster with those they think can indeed mesh with the new staff and roster.
