The Nebraska basketball team just got a lot better.

Nebraska basketball’s leading scorer from last season, James Palmer is reportedly set to return to the Huskers. Fan Rag Sports is reporting that Palmer told them he is withdrawing from the NBA Draft and will return to Lincoln for his final season of college basketball.

Palmer is able to return because while he declared for the draft, he never hired an agent. The same can be said for teammate Isaiah Roby, who declared earlier this spring he would be returning.

One Cornhusker basketball player whose future is still in limbo is Isaac Copeland. Like Palmer and Roby, Copeland declared for the draft but didn’t secure an agent.

Also like Palmer and Roby, Copeland was reportedly told by NBA people that he likely wouldn’t be drafted this year. All three are expected to be decent prospects for the 2019 NBA Draft.

The likelihood of making the league if he got another year of seasoning might have played a role in Palmer deciding to come back to school. If that is the case, it seems as though Copeland could be following those plans any day now.

The return of James Palmer Jr solidifies the Huskers as a legit candidate for a run to the NCAA tournament next season. The team was on the bubble for the tourney for most of the second half of last year.

An epic beatdown in the Big Ten tournament to Michigan appeared to have sealed their fate as nothing more than an NIT team. A poor performance in that tourney against Mississippi State left a poor taste in the mouths of Husker fans at the end of the year.

With Palmer and Roby returning, as well as talented youngsters with some experience under their belt, it appears as though the 2018-2019 season could be one full of promise for the Nebraska basketball team.
