The Nebraska football team made a new offer on Tuesday afternoon to a special kind of player.

Jason Harris is getting FBS offers in football and basketball. The Nebraska football team has seen plenty of talented prospects over the years but Harris is the rare renaissance man.

Players who are getting legitimate interest from FBS schools, especially power conference schools in two different sports are few and far between these days. When you think two-sport athlete, if you’re a certain age, you might think Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders.

Both of those guys were major league level talents in both baseball and football. It’s rare you see a combination of basketball and football.

That’s what the college sports world is seeing in Harris. According to 247Sports, is a four-star prospect at the defensive end position. He’s the number two prospect in the entire state of Arizona for the 2020 class.

Harris is also the third-ranked defensive end and 19th player overall in his class. The Huskers offered on Tuesday with the express purpose of getting him to put on the pads in Memorial stadium.

One has to wonder if Tim Miles didn’t let out a little whoop of celebration when he saw the announcement. Harris is 6-8 and weighs 220 pounds and is clearly considered one of the best power forwards in his basketball class.

The interest schools have in Harris as a hooper is demonstrated by the fact that he just recently got an offer to play for Texas Tech. That’s a Red Raiders team that went 27-10 last year and had a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

When it comes to dealing with a player who might have designs on in being a two-way player in college, the Nebraska football program might be uniquely suited. The athletic department’s Matt Davison played both wide receiver and guard for the Huskers during his playing days. Perhaps he can have a  long chat with Jason Harris about making it work in Lincoln.
