Nebraska football: Iowa Western coach thinks Husker pipeline is about to open
Chester Graves is the embodiment of the kind of player the Nebraska football team wants to get from Iowa Western. Recently offered by the Huskers, he’s considered the top JUCO prospect in the 2019 class.
Originally signed to play with Ole Miss out of high school, Graves ended up with the Rievers and showed exactly why he is a touted prospect. The defensive end looks to be one of those players that can help a pass rush that simply hasn’t been that good, get better immediately.
Because he’s already got a year of college football under his belt, the learning curve is going to be smaller. His numbers show there wasn’t much of a learning curve at all.
In his first season at Iowa Western, Graves recorded 67 tackles and six sacks. No Cornhusker defensive end came close to those kinds of numbers last year.
Having coach Strohmeier appear to be in the Huskers’ corner will likely help the recruitment of Chester Graves as more top programs start realizing what he has to offer.
While Council Bluffs is obviously in Iowa, the Nebraska football team has to treat Graves’ recruitment as though he’s almost an in-state prospect. There’s no reason why they should be losing touch or losing the race for this big time prospect who originally hails from Kansas.
While Graves is the only one who is currently carrying a Husker offer, there are others that show why a relationship with Iowa Western is important for Scott Frost and his gang.
