Huskers’ AD Bill Moos seems to understand how important a Black Friday game against Iowa is for the Nebraska football faithful.

Nebraska football might be playing Iowa in the Black Friday game every year after all. Jim Tenopir, the executive director of the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) says Cornhuskers AD Bill Moos is actively looking at bringing it back.

Tenopir spoke to Land of 10 on Tuesday and said Moos recently told NSAA officials that he has approached Iowa about keeping the “Heroes Game” on Black Friday. That has been where it has resided since the Big Red joined the Big Ten but the series is set to expire after 2019.

Former Huskers Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst let the conference kill the game as one of the last acts of his administration. The Big Ten has floated the idea of having Nebraska play other teams on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

The conference has also floated having the Cornhuskers play Iowa on the last weekend of the season, but on the Saturday following Thanksgiving rather than that Friday.

While Eichhorst and former head coach Mike Riley said they didn’t care about playing on Friday Iowa appears to understand the importance. The Hawkeyes are currently slated to end the season with Wisconsin in 2020 and 2021.

Iowa has been in contact with Wisconsin in an attempt to move those Saturday games to Black Friday. Now, Moos is apparently doing everything he can to get the situation back to where it sat just months ago.

Moos’ move to get the Heroes Game back on the schedule is just one of the reasons Tenopir feels more comfortable with the former Washington State AD in Lincoln than he did when Eichhorst was at the helm.

“I think Bill is more intuitive as far as what’s going on, what’s needed with expectations — not only where the general public is, but also the [Nebraska football] administration. And so I think he’s got a little bit more of a handle on it than Shawn might have had.”
